MY 3 FAVOURITE GAMES OF ALL TIME

  1. Black Ops 3

The Call of Duty franchise has sure had its ups and downs with their newest instalments in recent years and it’s no surprise, they just can't seem to replicate the phenomenon that was Black Ops 3.

With the release of the game in early November 2015, and with the realisation that exo-suits were making a return, it's fair to say people had doubts about how successful the game could be. The previous instalment, Advanced Warfare, had driven away most of the old player base due to the new ‘boots off ground’ mechanics. However, these doubts would soon be put to rest with the most fun and exciting game play in a COD game to date (and not to mention those 6-man search lobbies!). The multiplayer mode is seen as the best of its kind and the fan-loved zombies mode BOOMED in popularity due to the rise of zombie centred youtubers and resurrection of fan loved maps in the ‘Chronicles’ DLC later released in June 2017.

Pair all of this and the fact this game produced some of my best memories playing with my friends and it's a no brainer why it's ranked first in a stellar list of games.

  1. God of War (2018)

When you think of the God of War franchise’s main antagonist Kratos, you think of the young merciless, God-slaying mercenary, not an old, hardened father trying to guide his son through the trials and tribulations of life. However, the 2018 reboot of the franchise gave us exactly that AND more. It follows the story of Kratos and young Atreus venturing to the mountaintops to spread the ashes of Faye, Kratos’ wife and Atreus’ mother. The gameplay is very similar to that of hack-and-slash, which I love about it as it demonstrates the sheer brutality of Kratos and his strength. One feature in the game that highlights this is the ‘Spartan Rage’ where you literally pulverize anything in sight for a few seconds. Along with this, you can utilize your son’s abilities in fight to create a kick-ass father son combo that is satisfying as hell to pull off.

And how could I forget about the story? It features some of the best looking cutscenes in recent games and has a true, heartfelt message behind all the bloodshed and anger. There is a reason this game won Game of The Year over another great game that was Red Dead Redemption and it's because it is a complete package game with amazing gameplay, a beautiful story and a brilliant setting. Oh, and it's also set in the 9 realms of Norse Mythology... that too.

  1. Uncharted 4

Another long-lived franchise, Uncharted has some of the most unique and downright enjoyable gameplay in a game, full stop. It is one of the very few games that got better with each instalment and really developed on the already established characters and story. The fourth game centres around Nathan Drake after the events of the third game where he is living a normal, albeit boring life when suddenly people from his past start showing up and it drags him back into his old ways. The game features a lot of the previously seen mechanics but develops them in a way that feels fresh and new to the player. The parkour elements are what really makes the game though and it’s cinematic cutscenes that throw you straight into the action as you're watching makes it feel almost like a movie and, as this franchise tended to blow expectations out of the water with its storytelling, it didn't surprise anyone that it won Best Narrative at the Game Awards 2016. It is one of the very few games that I have given multiple playthroughs of and it never feels stale or old, it is for sure a timeless modern classic.
